Warren Woo is a Founder and Managing General Partner of Breakaway Capital. Warren has 30 years’ experience structuring and investing in debt and equity transactions. He is also the Chief Investment Officer for the Cherng Family Trust, the family office of Andrew and Peggy Cherng, the founders and owners of the Panda Restaurant Group. Warren was a Founding Partner and Managing Director of Moelis and Company. Prior to Moelis, he was at UBS Investment Bank from 2000 through 2006 where he was a Vice Chairman, member of the Board of Directors, member of the Global Management Committee and member of the U.S. Executive Committee as well as the Global Head of Financial Sponsors, Hedge Funds and Leverage Finance. Prior to UBS, Warren was a Managing Director and Head of West Coast Leverage Finance at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette from 1990 through 2000 and a Vice President at Drexel Burnham Lambert from 1986 through 1990.
Warren graduated from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 1986 and graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA in 1982. Warren is an owner of the Nashville Predators, a National Hockey League franchise. He is currently on the Advisory Board of Park Lane, a sports investment bank and a member of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles chapter of the Positive Coaching Alliance, a national organization focused on developing “Better Athletes, Better People”. Warren was a member of the Board of Trustees of Carlthorp School, an independent elementary school in Santa Monica, CA and a member of the Board of Directors of the West Valley Wolves, a Southern California-based youth hockey travel club. Warren and his family actively support a number of non-profit organizations and he was selected as the Tourette's Syndrome Association's "Champion of Children" in 2006.
Mike Connolly is a founder and General Partner of Breakaway Capital. From 2007 through 2013, Mr. Connolly was a Partner at Leonard Green & Partners, LP, a Los Angeles based private equity firm that manages approximately $15 billion in assets. From 2001 through 2007, Mr. Connolly was an investment banker at UBS Investment Bank, most recently as Managing Director and co-head of UBS’ Los Angeles Investment Banking office. Before joining UBS, he was a Senior Vice President at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette from 1992 through 2000. He graduated with High Honors from the University of California - Berkeley in 1992. Michael serves on the Board of Directors of Cascade Bancorp (Nasdaq: CACB) and its subsidiary, the Bank of the Cascades, the Board of Directors of Malibu Boats, Inc. (Nasdaq: MBUU), the Board of Managers of the Palms Casino Hotel in Las Vegas, NV, and is a member of the Emeritus Board of the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.
David Giroux is an associate at Breakaway Capital. Prior to joining Breakaway, David was most recently a portfolio analyst at PIMCO where he worked on the investment grade credit trading desk. David graduated from UCLA with a degree in Mathematics/Economics. He was a UCLA Alumni Scholar, as well as captain and president of the UCLA Ice Hockey team.
